THE SUN

Locally known as the “Big Ball” (for obvious reasons!), this iconic monument is officially called Perpetual Motion.

Unveiled in 1996, the monument was commissioned by the National Roads Authority and Kildare County Council, following a national open competition.

It was designed by artists Remco de Fouw and Rachael Joynt.

It is a hollow, ferrocement sphere with the colours and textures similar to a road surface with various road markings.

This iconic sculpture will be the Sun in our solar system model.

The monument is located off junction 9 of the M7 motorway at Naas and is visible to traffic travelling in both directions past the junction.

The town of Naas is approximately 30 km south-west of Dublin in Ireland.
